...And that guy is a teacher? Of Philosophy? Let me say this, I'm an Atheist, the only thing I got out of that video was that that teacher should never have been given the power to abuse his students like that and whatever person employed him, and whoever kept him employed after he did stuff like that was a total idiot and should not be working to hire people for schools.
It's one thing to believe something. It's a whole 'nother thing to shove it down other people's throats and make them feel bad and ashamed of their beliefs. I'd be angry if I was in that class, and I'd be angry if it was a Christian person trying to squash my personal beliefs. We are all entitled to our opinions, what point is there in dragging another's through the mud? Is it petty satisfaction? I don't want to convince anyone else to be an Atheist, what's the point? You get to ruin someones hopes. Alright-y then, great job, you're a jerk. It's not like the whole issue of truth or not truth is really why someone would do that. And even if it was, they would have handled the situation differently, not highhandedly like that guy. The only reason someone does that is because they need to feel empowered and they need to have reinforcement for their own beliefs.
I do have one point of contention with the general theme of this though. The whole "Isn't if funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world is going to hell?"
I find that statement extremely odd and disturbing. Now, I won't claim to know much of anything about Christianity, but isn't God supposed to love people? Even if we make mistakes, or are idiots and don't believe or whatever, why would he take it out on us? Why punish us if he is supposed to love us? And while I get that people have to pay for their actions, that concept just doesn't fit in with what I've heard about God being forgiving and loving. Not to mention, why would he do this intentionally if he would also be hurting those who do believe in him, those who don't trash him? Are they supposed to have faith and suffer because the people next to them insulted God and are wrong? Are they supposed to settle for the fact that they're going to Heaven so it's alright that their lives are being messed up because of this?
I'm not trying to start anything, I'm really just curious. I can never understand that point, it doesn't make any sense to me. If someone could please explain from their point of view, I'd really appreciate it. If this is too controversial, we can PM.
